What are you relying on?

Lots of things have happened this season and things haven’t. It has been difficult and strange for us all. One important thing to think about in this season of uncertainty and difficulty, what are we as God’s beloved children relying on?

Are we relying on the strength of God or on our own?

Are we relying on the true joy from God or other peoples?

Are we relying on the peace of God or in worldly desires?

These are very important questions to be asking ourselves. More so with the coronavirus pandemic. I don’t know about you but what a year! It seems that this year has been very heavy but eye opening in the same way.

I don’t think we will ever be able to not think about wearing a mask in a shop or constantly have our hands sanitised. But, if there is one thing I’ve personally learnt this year it is to not worry about the future and to rely on God fully. There isn’t one thing he doesn’t know about. He is the God of wisdom. He knows all things. We will look back on this year and be grateful. Whether it’s been dreadful or not so bad, we will have grown in beautiful ways.

We don’t need to know how we have grown, but there will be a time in the future where we will all look back on this year and know that God was faithful, we grew in the fruits of the spirit.

The Holy Spirit led me to open my Bible in Isaiah 36. Now I didn’t really know why. I thought why have I been brought here God, but just then I noticed one line.....

“What are you relying on?”

The whole story in Isaiah 36 is about an invasion, or what we tend to call a war. King Hezekiah had been ruling for 14 years when this happened. Another king called Sennacherib of Assyria decided to attack the cities in Judah and captured them.

Just like this season. It has without a doubt felt like a war, so much devastation, loss, and grief. It was unexpected. This virus has invaded our homes, our lives and this world. But, throughout all of this God has been with us. He has been supporting and helping us. Guiding us to know what to do and most certainly not leaving nor forsaking us.

Most importantly we haven't lost our identity in Jesus and we have not lost the ability to show His love to those around us. Now that is a reason to celebrate!!

Now as I was reading this passage, it highlighted to me that these people in the war were relying on the wrong things. We can do things for sure, but it’s always greater to rely on the strength God freely gives us. We can’t do anything without Him.

One thing though to focus on is that throughout this season God has not left us. We will never know why this has happened and we do not need to know. But, all we must do is rely on our father for everything. Everything we are. With all our mind, body and soul.

There will be a day when we are able to come together again, to do the things we used to but until that day we must rely on God. Our father will do the impossible, He will do what He is famous for. He will heal hearts, bring restoration, heal the broken, lift up the weak, and 100% make a way. This is who He is and we cannot lose hope.

Question: How are you going to look back on this season in 10 years time? That we were the generation that clung to God and relied on Him or dragged our feet trying to do things by ourselves and focusing on our own strength. I know which I am going to choose.

My dear brothers and sisters, let’s choose to rely on Jesus and on His strength during this season, because it’s when we wholeheartedly allow him to help us that beautiful fruit will grow.

Greater seasons are ahead and God will get all the glory He deserves.

Stay safe friends,

Much love,
